Telemedicine Now Accessible In India’s Remote Areas

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) is partnering with medical associates in India to grant access to advanced medical technology: “Through a new agreement with TeleChikitsa Ventures, a private company based in Bangalore that assists Indian physicians seeking second opinions from other qualified physicians, UPMC’s doctors are providing direct, physician-to-physician consultations.” The goal of both India and Pittsburgh’s medical associates’ is to improve access to world-wide healthcare, including the latest in digital technology. The current accessibility rate of healthcare professionals in India is just six doctors for every 10,000 patients. The UPMC telemedicine program started in Pennsylvania more than a decade ago.
